Musician Rodney Hatfield on painting: ‘very much like playing a solo’

Many Central Kentucky music fans know Rodney Hatfield for his wailing harp and gritty voice as a member of Tin Can Buddha and other ensembles over the decades. But it will be Hatfield’s visually artistic side on display over the next month with “Ordinary Madness,” a show of his recent paintings that opens Friday at New Editions Gallery during Gallery Hop.

Ann Tower, influential Lexington gallery owner and artist, has died

Ann Tower, an artist who had a multifaceted impact on the arts in Lexington, died Tuesday after suffering an aneurysm Saturday in her gallery on Main Street. She was 65. Tower was the owner of the Ann Tower Gallery in the Downtown Arts Center and a successful artist. She also worked as an art critic for the Herald-Leader from 1983 to 1992.

World-renowned contemporary artist teaches at University of Kentucky

Ebony G. Patterson is a world-renowned contemporary artist from Jamaica known for her mixed media works, who has also been teaching painting and mixed media at University of Kentucky’s School of Arts and Visual Studies since 2007.
